Illy Café Plays Host to the Food Network

The illycaffe is currently is hosting an interactive “Create Your Own Coffee Bar.” The idea behind the event is that guests can come and select “sundae style” from 20 sophisticated ingredients, which will then be crafted into on-the-spot personalized beverages by illy’s Master Barista, Giorgio Milos. The “Create Your Own Coffee Bar” will be open until Sunday, October 10th.

illy’s Create Your Own Coffee bar will be part of the illy issimo AuthentiCity Lounge, located at 632 Hudson Street in New York’s Meatpacking District. The AuthentiCity Lounge was created to showcase the photography exhibit, “Revealing Purity and Authenticity in Urban Life” a project created by illy issimo’s partnership with New York’s School of Visual Arts, with the aim of celebrating and supporting young emerging artists and challenging them to explore signs of purity and authenticity in urban settings.

In an effort to increase their visibility and bring together the culinary and coffee worlds, illy also played host to the launch of Claire Robinson’s (of Food Network fame) new cookbook, “5-Ingredient Fix,” an exclusive cocktail party event on October 6th from 6 to 8 p.m. in the illy issimo AuthentiCity Lounge. The event was put together by illy and Lee Brian Schrager, founder and director of the Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival. Milos was on hand providing complimentary illy beverages throughout the event. When asked about participating in the event Milos responded, “I’m thrilled to be able to share my knowledge of coffee and passion for it with others. It’s an honor to share my craft at an event on the caliber of the Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival, with so many culinary icons.”

Create Your Own Coffee bar and the illy issimo AuthentiCity Lounge are part of a larger initiative, illy’s “Be Your Own Barista” series, developed to augment Americans’ understanding and appreciation of fine coffee. Milos, a Specialty Coffee Association of Europe-certified barista , top competitor in the World Barista Championships, and dedicated faculty member of illy’s Universita` del Caffè in Trieste, Italy, has spearheaded this series. The illy issimo Authenticity Lounge is open Monday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 1p.m. to 6 p.m.
