One of our aims with Symposium is to engage a wide variety of perspectives in a thoughtful conversation about critical issues for specialty coffee, yet we very humbly recognize that distance, cost, and language can be a barrier to participation for many important people in our industry. As a step toward greater inclusiveness, we are pleased to make a scholarship opportunity available this year.
Supported by Bunn-O-Matic Corporation and SCAA’s Sustainability Council, SCAA is offering up to 10 scholarships for producers or producer representatives, covering the registration fee to attend the SCAA Symposium April 27-28, 2011, in Houston, TX. The recipients of the scholarship will be responsible for covering their own transportation and lodging expenses. Scholarships will be awarded as available. Priority will be given to producers who sell a minimum of 35% of their coffee to U.S. markets; to representatives of small-scale producers; and for whom coffee is the primary source of income. We will also strive to balance scholarships as evenly as possible between men and women. English is not required, but a working command of English will greatly enhance the experience.
