SCAA’s 5th Annual Symposium Comes to Boston this April

The Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) is pleased to announce that its 5th Annual Symposium will be held in Boston, MA, April 10-11, 2013. Hundreds of the industry’s thought leaders, business owners, decision makers, writers, academics, and skilled coffee professionals of all stripes will converge at the historic Harvard Club to discuss and collectively address possibilities for the future of specialty coffee.

“Specialty coffee is an industry based on ideas: new ways of thinking about flavor, commerce, and innovation,” states SCAA Director of Symposium, Peter Giluiano. “Since its founding, Symposium has been an incubator for ideas in coffee; bringing thought leaders and business leaders together to solve problems, spark innovation, and push specialty coffee forward. Focused on delivering compelling coffee information and interaction to the most committed and intelligent coffee professional, Symposium is a space where coffee leaders are able to gather, interact, and prepare to lead. Symposium delegates are committed to the success of their own coffee enterprise, but also to share success as an industry. This event has turned into the most compelling and talked-about event in coffee, and has become a crucible for new ideas in collaboration and innovation in the coffee industry…”

The 2013 Symposium will explore new discoveries, compelling analysis, and deeper understanding of the scientific principles that underlie our industry. The SCAA expects nearly 400 industry leaders to be in attendance to share new scientific, agricultural, and economic research that is essential for understanding the rapidly changing coffee world.

In addition to the onsite programming in Boston, the dialogue of Symposium will continue throughout the year in the form of news, videos, discussion, and updates at the recently re-launched Symposium website (www.scaasymposium.org). Session videos from the 2012 program will be released over the course of the year leading up to the 2013 event. Additionally a new program of offsite live Symposium talks, called “Symposium@”, will be presented at select industry events throughout the year. More details on Symposium@ scheduling for 2013 will be made available in the coming months.

Held immediately prior to SCAA’s 25th Annual Exposition, The Event, Symposium registration includes entrance to the trade show exhibit hall, opening ceremonies & welcome reception for The Event, and access to the US Barista Championship, US Cup Tasters Championship, USBC Brewers Cup, and the Roasters Guild Roasters Choice Competition. Additionally, Symposium delegates will be able to attend Exposition lectures at no cost and will be qualified to register for a fee for ticketed events and Skill Building Workshops at The Event.
